You know your idea will work technically.  But you are savvy enough to know that is no guarantee of success.  It dawns on you - need to raise money and attain some outside expertise. Prior to starting SafeHarbor, Brian Sterling was president of Plan.IT, Inc., a technical consulting practice focused on the lumber and paper industries. Plan.IT's client list included Weyerhaeuser, where Brian had responsibility for over $14M in capital projects and managed Weyerhaeuser's Year 2000 compliance projects.

 

Previously Brian was General Manager of Amerada Hess' Virgin Island subsidiary where he was responsible for the operations of the largest oil refinery in the world on the island of St. Croix. As General Manager he administered over 7,000 employees and $3B in annual revenues. He also oversaw a $1.2B refinery expansion project. Before becoming General Manager, Brian held numerous management and engineering positions at Hess' corporate headquarters in Woodbridge, NJ.

 

Brian graduated cum laude from Washington State University in 1978 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He is married with two children and lives in Hoquiam, Washington.

Bill has more than 21 years of technology business experience in marketing and sales management positions. During his nine years at Microsoft, he built the industry marketing team that drove the launch of early versions of Windows and the first version of Win NT. In addition, he built and led the marketing and business development efforts for the Microsoft Network (MSN) from early strategy through launch. Prior to Microsoft, Bill spent 10 years in enterprise sales and sales management in Silicon Valley. His background provides a unique perspective on evaluating new business models in rapidly evolving technology industries. His contacts within the Microsoft community provide a terrific conduit for early looks at new business opportunities.

 

Bill received his BA in Business from Washington State University and an MBA from Pepperdine University.  He is currently on the board for several of the companies with which he has invested, including Action Engine, AskMe Corporation, Entomo, Intelligent Results and SafeHarbor.
